Offshore Wind still leads

In early 2026, the government approved support for 8.4GW of new offshore wind capacity, exceeding expectations and reaffirming its commitment to large-scale renewables.

However, the industry’s challenge has shifted. The problem is no longer whether offshore wind is politically supported (it is) but whether projects can be delivered on time and at a viable cost.

Inflation, higher interest rates and stretched global supply chains have all pushed costs up. At the same time, projects are becoming larger, more complex and more legally demanding.
